篇章词汇题解题策略

一、题型概述

篇章词汇理解是2006624新题型大学英语四级考试中出现的一种新的测试形式,其题型表现为选词填空。测试形式是在一篇240字左右的文章中挖出10个空格,然后给出A~O15个词语供考生选择并填入所缺之处。本题型与短句问答作为Part IV Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) Section A的两种备选题型,在考试中交替出现。在样题和2006624的真题中,所考查词语以动词,形容词,名词和副词为主。这说明考生应着重注意动词,形容词和名词等的用法。另外,15个可选词汇每个只能用一次,不可重复使用。详见该题型的指导语(Directions):值得注意的是,在《样卷》所给出的篇章词汇理解样题中,其15个备选词语都是完全符合文章的语法关系的词语,而非其动词原形等词语,这就为考生的选择带来了极大的方便。因为这样一来,适合于放入文章缺漏之处的词在放入文章之后,其句式结构都是完整的,非常便于考生通读复核。

二、  例题详析 选自《大学英语四级考试(CET-4)试点考试样卷》

Questions 47 to 56 are based on the following passage.

  When Roberto Feliz came to the USA from the Dominican Republic, he knew only a few words of English. Education soon became a  47  . “I couldn’t understand anything,” he said. He  48  from his teachers, came home in tears , and thought about dropping out.

解题思路:

首先,确定方框里的词汇词性,并进行分类和确定词义。

动词 wonder (...感到惊讶), acquired (获得, 学到), regained (收回, 恢复), hid (隐藏, 掩藏), recalled (回忆, 回想); 名词 wonder(奇迹, 惊奇), nightmare (梦魇, 恶梦), acceptance(接受, 承诺), breakthrough (突破);形容词 native(本地的, 与生俱来的), effective(有效的), prominent(显著的), decent (正派的, 端庄的), countless(数不尽的);副词 consistently(始终如一地), automatically(自动地, 机械地)

其次,寻找主题句,通常该题型文章长度不是太长,文章第一句就是主题句。可以断定本段落探讨的话题。“When Roberto Feliz came to the USA from the Dominican Republic, he knew only a few words of English.” 可以确定本文关键概念 “Roberto Feliz”, “a few words of English”.初步可以断定,本文讨论是Roberto Feliz学英语的一些情况。

再次,微观解题。

47. 填名词。在语感上一下子想到了problem,但备选词里面没有,选E)nightmare比较接近。[划掉这个词]

48.填动词。既然听不懂,肯定会躲着老师,选I) hid[划掉这个词]

49.填形容词。既然Roberto要学的是English那么spanish在这里就不应该是学习对象,嗯,应该是他的母语,即选F)nativeDominican听起来像“多米尼加”,这是个拉美国家,拉美地区国家大多说西班牙语,也符合常识。[划掉这个词]

50.填动词。“再得到”,嗯,有人帮助,当然重拾信心,选D)regained[划掉这个词]

51. 填形容词。语感上觉得应该填famous或者successful但没有。看备选词,其他形容词的意思都不适合,无疑应该从不知道意思的J)K)里面选。先留着吧。

52.填动词。脑子里一下子想起了break through备选词里也有,但那是个名词。Languageacademic skills应该是学到的东西,没有learnstudy那么选B)acquire吧。[划掉这个词]

53.填形容词。这个连想都不用想,选L)countless[划掉这个词]

54.填形容词。既然这个方法(way)能够使他们成功,

    那么这里应该选H)effective[划掉这个词]

55.填副词。0)automatically肯定不行,选C) consistently[划掉这个词]

56.填形容词。剩下的形容词恐怕都不行。前面说辍学率低,后面说“什么”率高,哦,是不是升学率? G)acceptance是不是就可以?名词前面也可以放名词的,acceptance rate“接受率”,呵呵,比“升学率,,好像更直接啊![划掉这个词]

   好了,基本上填完了,通读一下。文章还是很通顺的,而且并没有特别难理解的地方。那就说明选词还是比较准确的。最后解决第51题。分析一下。J)prominent 是杰出的,修饰人的--professor是很厉害的人(教授)
